The Square was purchased in late 2015 by a local family who invested heavily in the Grade II Listed Building, resulting in The Square becoming a luxury 5* Boutique Hotel. Extensive refurbishment of The Square followed in 2022 including the acquisition of, and expansion into, the neighbouring building, which together have created the marvel that is now the Square Townhouse, affectionately known as the SQT.

SQT prides itself on its continued sustainability efforts. Renovations were carried out by local builders and contractors with as many locally sourced supplies as were available. Great expense went into ensuring that plastic or harmful products were not used in the total renovation of the building.
SQT offers unlimited filtered still and sparkling water for guests to help themselves and refill the reusable bottles provided in every guest room, and local produce is sourced for the SQT Lounge Bar.
Consideration of how to be more sustainable is taken in every decision that is made with us at the SQT along with supporting the local community and industry.

Known as London-by-Sea for its close proximity to the great capital, Brighton is a popular seaside town of East Sussex county, voted in 2019 as the best place to live and work in. It came into its own during the mid-1700s when seaside resorts became fashionable for cure-seekers. But it was during the Regency Age that it really took off, becoming infamous for the variety of hedonistic and often immoral pursuits it offered to Londoners.
In 1820, George IV ascended the throne to become the King of Great Britain, the oldest child of King George III, George IV is remembered for his role as Regent and style setter rather then his reign as King. His lasting legacy was the Regency period, known for flourishing arts and literature, the resurgence of classical architecture and a great social and political change.
Leading the pack of pleasure-seekers was the flamboyant Prince Regent “Prinny” himself (later King George IV). Fleeing his stifling royal duties in London, his frequent visits along with friends and courtiers firmly established Brighton as the city of self-indulgent pleasure. In fact, so notorious was Regency Brighton that the famous novelist Jane Austen chose the city as the site of giddy Lydia Bennett’s elopement with George Wickham in her novel, Pride and Prejudice.
Prinny’s biggest contribution to the town is also the top highlight of Brighton today: the Royal Pavilion – an exotic palace the Prince Regent had constructed to impress his Catholic widower mistress, Mrs Fitzherbert. Redesigned by the famous architect John Nash in 1815, the palace is a bewildering amalgam of Indian, Chinese and Regency architecture and well worth a visit.

Notification of cancellation without charge is required at least 7 days prior to the date of arrival, or 14 days during peak season. After this time the reservation total will be charged in full. Please note, when booking any special offers that require full prepayment at the time of booking, all payments are non-transferable and non-refundable in the event of cancellation.
A credit card prepayment equal to 100% of your total stay is required to secure your booking. If you cancel for any reason, attempt to modify this reservation, or do not arrive on your specified check-in date, your payment is non-refundable. Any additional charges incurred during your stay are to be settled prior to departure.

The Square Townhouse adopts dynamic pricing and the price of our rooms fluctuates based on demand. When you make a reservation request, we’ll give you a total price for the rooms and number of nights you’ve requested. The price you pay is the price quoted to you at the time you make your reservation.
Room prices are per night and are inclusive of VAT at the applicable rate at the time of your reservation. Current selling rates include VAT at 20%. If the rate of VAT changes between the date of your reservation and the date of your stay, we will adjust the rate of VAT that you pay, unless you have already paid for the reservation in full before the change in the rate of VAT takes effect.
You may wish to take out room cancellation insurance in case you need to cancel your reservation.
If you use a debit/credit card to check in, a hold may be placed on your card account for the full anticipated amount to be owed to the hotel, including estimated incidentals, through your date of check-out and such hold may not be released for 72 hours from the date of check-out or longer at the discretion of your card issuer.
A reservation of five rooms or more is considered a group booking. If you wish to make a group booking, please call the hotels directly.
Children: You can only make a booking if you are 18 years old or over. If you arrive at the hotel and are under 18 years of age you will not be permitted to stay alone.
The maximum room occupancy is two adults. You must not exceed the maximum occupancy for the room allocated to you. We reserve the right to conduct checks on occupancy. Occupancy is not transferable.
Under 18’s are not permitted to stay in our hotel unless a parent or guardian is also staying in the hotel. We reserve the right to request valid photographic proof of identity and age, so please bring this with you otherwise where requested you will not be permitted to stay.
CHECK IN TIMES
Check in time for accommodation is from 3pm. An early check in can be requested but is not guaranteed.
Check out time is by 11am. Late check out can be requested until noon- subject to availability on check in. Late check outs after noon are subject to a charge of £20 per hour.
DAMAGE TO PROPERTY, FIXTURE, OR FITTINGS
The hotel will hold the Client responsible for any damage caused through negligence by the Client, the Client’s guest or the Client’s contractors.
You are liable for any removal or damage to hotel property during your stay and whilst on the premises. We are strictly a non-smoking hotel; therefore, this extends to damage caused by smoking in your room. Any associated costs as a result of damage or removal will be your sole responsibility. Charges to be paid by yourself shall be at the sole discretion of the hotel.
The Square Townhouse is a non-smoking hotel. Smoking is not permitted anywhere inside the hotel or on any balconies. If we find any evidence or believe that you have been smoking in your room including on the balcony during your stay, we will charge £150 to your credit card.
VAT & SERVICES
VAT is included at the current rate but is subject to change without notice. In our bar and restaurants, a discretionary service charge of 10% will be applied to your bill and shared amongst our team members. For room service orders, a tray charge of £5 applies.

All data is securely stored on software that is compliant with GDPR. We do not hold any credit card details once any charges have been settled. These details are immediately destroyed and no record of them is kept.
Should we contact you in the future via email (outside of an email specific only to you) we will ensure that the content is likely to be of interest to you, such as promotional offers or to make you aware of other products we offer, within the scope of the hotel industry.
